Abensons Solicitors Administration/Closure- Important information for clients

Following the closure of ABENSONS LAW LIMITED trading as Abensons Solicitors (“Abensons”), National Law Partners Limited trading as Gregory Abrams Davidson Solicitors (“GAD”) have been passed about 50% of the back catalogue of Wills, Lasting Power of Attorneys (LPA’s), and Trusts that were previously held by Abensons.

We safely hold and store (FREE OF CHARGE) these documents for all clients whose SURNAME falls alphabetically from A to Jo.  For clients whose surname falls alphabetically from Ju-Z click here .

Abensons Solicitors Wills & Powers of Attorney

GAD would like to take this opportunity to reassure any existing Abensons’ clients that unless you have had a recent change in circumstances you do not need to take any immediate action in relation to any Will or Power of Attorney you may have had with Abensons. We can confirm that GAD has relocated all documents held by Abensons in their former Allerton Road offices,  to a secure store location on Penny Lane, Liverpool L18 for their safekeeping.

If you held a Trust with Abensons, it is important that you take advice in relation to the ongoing management of this; particularly in light of new regulatory requirements which came into effect on 1st September 2022.

Abensons Solicitors former clients

If you are an ex-Abensons client and have any concerns, questions or actions you would like to take on your Will, POA or Trust, you should contact GAD in the first instance. You do not need to instruct a new solicitor to ensure the safeguarding and management of your existing Abensons product.

FAQ’s

Have Abensons Solicitors gone Into Administration?

The Liverpool law firm Abensons Solicitors, Allerton Road L18, ceased trading in January 2024.

The long established firm of Gregory Abrams Davidson Solicitors ("GAD”) have been passed certain documents of Abensons when it ceased practice.

I was an Abensons client - is my/my family member’s Will safe?

Yes. GAD have taken over the storage of Wills, POAs, and Trusts, for all clients falling alphabetically from A to Jo. If you had a Will in storage with Abensons and your surname falls from A to Jo it will remain in secure storage under the safekeeping of GAD.

If you have recently suffered a bereavement and require your loved one’s Will, please contact us on 0151 236 5000 or at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and ask for our Probate Team.

I was an Abensons client, what are my next steps?

If you wish to make changes to, or enquire about your existing Abensons Will, POA or Trust, please contact us on 0151 236 5000 or at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and ask for our Private Client Team.

If you had a Trust with Abensons  and it has not been reviewed in over a year, you should contact GAD and we will provide a trust review with a dedicated member of our team for a fixed fee. All Trusts should be reviewed annually, we urge you to arrange this as soon as possible to ensure your Trust assets are afforded the greatest level of protection.

Similarly, as personal and financial circumstances change over time for the better and worse, you should contact GAD and we will provide a Will review with a dedicated member of our team for a fixed fee. All Wills should be reviewed regularly, and we urge you to arrange this as soon as possible to ensure your Will affords the greatest level of protection for your family and loved ones. (If you then proceed with an update, the initial fee will be offset against the final invoice for Will writing.)

Why wasn’t I told about the administration of Abensons Solicitors?

The Solicitors Regulation Authority will step in and allocate live files and matters of Abensons Solicitors to an independent Law Firm, often outside of the city and geographic area where Abensons traded.

Unfortunately, with thousands of clients affected by the Abensons administration, it simply won’t be feasible to let everyone know about this at the same time. Over a period of time GAD will be contacting all clients whose files we have obtained.

I paid a fee which was to cover the ongoing management of my Trust, will that continue with GAD?

GAD are an entirely separate law firm, now custodian of about 50% of the Abensons Wills, POA and Trusts, and are here to either assist with any work required or assist in directing your papers elsewhere. It is not financially possible for us to adhere to any agreement you held with Abensons. In order for us to provide a service to the clients affected by the administration of Abensons, like all solicitor firms, we are required to charge a fee for any work we are requested to carry out.

I want to transfer my Will, POA or Trust elsewhere. Can I do that?

Absolutely. We have a dedicated team in place to assist in transferring your documentation to you, or to a Solicitor of your choosing. We do, however, specialise in advising on this type of work and are more than happy to assist. Our Penny Lane office is in very close proximity from your former law firm, and our Private Client Department are based at this office.

Whether you wish to instruct GAD or seek advice on transferring your documents elsewhere, please contact us on 0151 236 5000 or at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and ask for our Private Client Team

Am I entitled to compensation following the closure of Abensons Solicitors?  If I want to complain about Abensons what is the process.

There is no universal compensation scheme in place for clients affected by the closure of Abensons. You may choose to submit a claim to the Intervening Solicitor, setting out any loss which you believe you have incurred. Alternatively, you may choose to submit a complaint to the Legal Ombudsman (LeO). Please see https://www.legalombudsman.org.uk/how-to-complain/

There are individual Directors from Abensons noted on my Will, POA or Trust personally, how do I get them taken off?

GAD are able to arrange for their removal from your documentation and replacement with alternative representatives of your choosing. We can advise on this and the associated costs that will be involved, following an initial review of your documents that were set up by Abensons, this being required as GAD have no knowledge surrounding your documentation, the reason it was set up, etc. Please contact us on 0151 236 5000 or at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and ask for our Private Client Team.

My surname falls between Ju to Z – Where are my documents held?

The sudden and unexpected collapse of Abensons Solicitors resulted in 50% of the Abensons held Wills, POA and Trusts being transferred by advisers to the Directors of Abensons to a law firm in Manchester, before GAD was able to intervene to assist and protect local clients of the firm in the South Liverpool area.

If your surname falls between Jo to Z then GAD DO NOT hold your documents and instead you will need to contact the following law firm:

Treadstone Law

Unit 6 Etrop Way

Wythenshawe

Manchester

M22 5RE

0161 685 0070
