Medical Device Alert DePuy Hip Replacement Implants

DePuy ASR Hip Replacement implants which have been in clinical use in the UK since 2003 have been recalled by their manufacturer. The manufacturer previously issued a failed safety notice on the 18th March 2010.

The manufacturer reported that the revision rate for these devices is higher than expected across the entire size range and have therefore recalled all ASR system hip replacement implants.

The manufacturer has recommended that there be annual follow ups with clinical examinations for all patients implanted with ASR hip replacements.  For patients presenting with symptoms of abdominal pain, limping, swelling around hip, deteriorating hip function or radiological abnormality then revision surgery may be considered.

If you or a relative have been affected and would like to discuss the possibility of compensation relating to the DePuy implant please contact a member of our medical negligence team on 0151 733 3353.
